Best lenses for 50D

I'm considering purchasing a 50D, after reading some of your comments. Thank you guys. I have no idea what types of lens will be best based on your knowledge and experience.

Well, the best are Canons, but if on a budget, Sigma is making some kicking glass right now. Some are so good that even Photography magazine is saying they beat Canon in some focal lengths. I dunno about that, but on a budget, getting a SIGMA is a good option. And the more you save on glass, the faster a lens you can afford. And that's key. To get the fastest lens you can afford. And although your photo style may vary, you can start off with a good 18-55, and work your way out from there. I'd get one at 18-85 and then 70-210 or there abouts. But make sure you get lenses that are EF compatible. And some cheaper third party lenses will cause lens errors. And understand this. When buying a lens, a camera salesman will try and steer you towards those third party lenses, especially cheaper ones. that's because they get a higher commission (called a "spiff") on those.

I'd also persuse eBay for older EF lenses. You want to be careful to make sure you're dealing with a reputable salesman (*check their feedback ratings*) but good deals on used glass can be had there.
