What is the maximum MPixel resolution achieved till now in still cameras? i have heard its 80 Megapixel, it is correct??

In a magazine (i dont remember the name) I have seen a camera which claimed to have resolution of 80 MegaPixel, it was not yet launched in India, and the price was shown as 'On Demand'.

Was that information correct??

This must be wrong or at least it is not a consumer camera. The highest megapixels I have heard of is 12.8 in the Canon EOS 5d which is plrices around $2500 in America.

My friend has a Kodak DCS 14N with 14 Megapixels and is looking to replace it with the new Sigma SD14 also a 14 Megapixel. He has the Kodak for quite sometime so I would say 14Plus Megapixels is where the top of the line digital cameras are currently at.

It all depends on what you consider a still camera...you mean a consumer level camera or a professional system? If you go for a medium format with a digital back, then yes I believe there is an 80 megapixel camera. But it's hardly something you would walk into a typical store and buy.

The highest digital SLR camera is the Canon 1Ds MkII which as mentioned is 16.7mp. If you want to talk about digital backed medium format cameras then the Hasselblad H3D-39 wins with 39mp.
