I own a 1000is. It focuses fast and is a great camera in my opinion. I use to have the a2000is. I got it like the day it came out. But it was big & noticably slower, because of the bigger lcd & 230,000 screen. If you want the manual features of the a590. I would look for an a630(bigger sensor better lense). Its much much faster but bigger & heavier.You really don't need IS with a 4x zoom. Honestly. Not to mention a flip out screen
