Image quality wise, they're about the same. However, at ISOs above 400, the image really begins to break down, with the A590ISs having the advantage thanks to it having less MP. And considering that 99% of your pictures will be snapshots, you won't even see the benefit of having 2 extra MP of the A1000IS in the image. So, I think you can go with the A590IS.
