First time digital camera for my mom? help!

I am totally loyal to Canon's and have been my entire camera buying life. But, now I am on the hunt for a super easy to use, takes great pics, good zoom, big screen, etc, for my 56 year old mom who loves taking pics of family, friends, animals (we live on a farm). I don't want her to be disgusted or annoyed if it doesn't work well for her. She loves her film camera, but it's time to move into the digital age. Help please! I love the look and specs of the Canon Powershot A1000, but am not sure if this is the right choice or not. I live in Taiwan so I have to buy it on the internet without being able to try it out. Any advice please!!! Help!

Oh, also, we want to spend less than $200. My mom will have this camera for at least 10 years or longer if it lasts. Thanks for any advice!

The Canon A1000 is a great camera, as is the Canon SD1100 which is also within your price range. I think your mom would be happy with either camera. 10 years might be a little optimistic, but these are durable cameras that should last quite a while.

Other options are the Canon SD990IS, SD870, and the newer A2000.
