I'm comparing A1000 and SD1100. What's the better bet?

I have an A630 that I love, but often another member of the family has it when I want to use it. So I'm looking for something a little smaller and lighter, mostly for vacation. So I've narrowed it down to the A1000 and the SD1100.
I like the SD1100, but I'm beginning to think that the lithium battery is a drawback, not a plus. So the second on my list is the A1000. When my rechargeable batteries peter out, I can pop in reg. AAs until I get home to recharge. Do the lithium batteries last longer, or should I be worried about my camera dying when the batteries give out?

LiOn batteries aren't really a draw back except that over time they will lose their capacity. So, after about 2-3 years you may be looking to replace it as it begins to hold less power. So, if you get a backup liOn with it, you'd be fine for swapping out.

But I really do like that AA option. Rechargables have gotten more powerful as teh technology matures. So, if battery power is your concern, I'd say go with the A1K. But if portability is the issue, then the SD1100 will fit in that shirt pocket or handbag a lot easier.

Thanks much! I'm going for the A1000, only partly because of the battery. Once I played around with it in the store, I realized it had a couple of features I prefer, mostly the widescreen mode. And it's still small enough to slip into a purse or pocket or backpack for vacation. But now I also won't be "afraid" to get a camera with a LiOn battery in the future. Your answer was very informative.
Thanks again!
