Every time I turn it on, it prompts me to set the date and time, reguardless of whether or not I've set it during the previous use. How can I fix this

This camera is less than a month old, has done this from the start, with brand new batteries. The camera works fine, I just always have to either set the date and time, or cancel it. If I don't set it, it will log the pictures as taken in 1989.

For this camera, there is a separate rechargeable lithium ion battery that enables the camera to remember the date.

If, for some reasons, it is discharged, it can be recharged within 4 hours using AA batteries or the AC adapter.

I would try to recharge the battery. If that doesn't work, you may have to get Canon to look deeper into the issue since it is less than a month old.

Bukit is right, the watchh battery keeps the date/time. if you're resetting it, the battery has died out - which is odd cause the A1000IS hasn't been around that long. But maybe it was an old battery to begin with.
