Hi Lilly,

Do you get images when the camera is in playback mode (rather than shooting mode)? Can you see the menu when the camera is in EITHER mode?

If no to both, the LCD monitor itself has probably died. If this is the case, you have a decision to make--getting it fixed is going to be expensive and also amounts to throwing cash at a very out-of-date machine. You might want to consider spending the repair money on an upgrade instead, should it come to this.

Hope this helps!

I can see pictures stored that were taken previously, I can see the menu, I see the bird picture when first turn on the camera and hear the bird sound...it's when I view to take a picture, the lcd screen is blank gray. I took 7 pictures for the fun of it(flash works)but when download it's just all black...no pictures. I'm wondering if I mistakenly mis-set something on the menu..

If this additional info helps, please let me know if anything else comes to mind.
Lilly :)

Lilly and Sharen, this sounds like a failure of the camera's CCD sensor. Luckily for you, this is a common fault with your model and Canon has acknowledged this. They will repair the problem for free (including free shipping) whether you're in warranty or not. You can see the service advisory here and schedule a repair here. Good luck!

Know this post is old, but this may help others who have this problem. Yep this sounds like a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info. The first link gives other peoples experience and tips in submitting their cameras for repair under this advisory:
