where can I get technical help?

The monitor will not show a image when I try to take a picture.Can you tell me what the problem is?

Canon has had a defective CCD chip problem with many of it's cameras, and this is one of the symptoms. Head on over to canonusa.com and go to support and look for a service advisory for this particular model. It may be included and if it is, then Canon has committed to repairing it for free regardless of your warranty is in force or not.

If it isn't. I'd still contact Canon and plead your case.

Know this post is old, but this may help others who have this problem. Yep this sounds like a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info.
