everytime i take apicture its ALWAYS black. just one big black screen. maybe i did something to settings? please help..

Try pressing the DISP button on the top left of the back panel. It toggles the display on and off. It's typically turned off to save battery power if you don't mind using the little optical viewfinder. The MENU button will give you access to the user configuration, allowing you to select the review time for pictures just taken. 0 seconds turns off the review completely so you can take pictures in rapid succession, Reviewing the image is usually used if you're taking scenery shots instead of action shots, where you have plenty of time to review the picture you just took to see if it's well framed, properly focused and properly exposed (not too light or dark).

Know this post is old, but this may help others who have this problem. This sounds like a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info.
