Why has my Canon Powershot A400 become so slow?

I've had my Canon Powershot A400 for a couple of years, and it's always taken great pictures. Lately though, it has become painfully slow, taking a while to take the picture (sometimes not responding at all to button being pressed) and taking even longer for the image to appear on the LCD screen and get ready to take another picture. I have used the same SD card since I got the camera (256 MB) but erased images between uses. Also, it has been draining the batteries in no time. What's going on? I don't know much about this at all so any help is greatly appreciated!

Try resetting the camera. Sometimes the firmware settings may not load correctly and it can slow down the camera and affect battery performance. I'd also reformat the card. SD cards are getting faster all the time and you can pick up a faster speed card which can help as well. Use fresh batteries - alkalines. I'd also check and see if you can download a firmware update from Canon's website.

These simple steps should help. However, because of it's age, it may need servicing. You an get an estimate for this from Canon, but keep in mind the rule of thumb that if the estimate for repair is north of 50% what you paid for it, you're better off taking that money and buying a newer and upgraded model.

Thanks so much! I'll try downloading an update if one is available. Formatting the SD card helped a little, too. Thanks again!
