A lot of people have the same problem and you can save a lot of time if you use the following alternative method to upload pictures :

Remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into a card reader, preferably a simple SD card reader.
Plug the card reader to the USB port of the computer and it will be recognized immediately if you are using Windows 2000 or XP. Windows 98SE will need a driver which can be found in the CD sold together with the card reader.

You may copy the files manually to the HDD or get them imported by Picasa2 or Irfanview.

Cedira, I just wanted to add that if you haven't fixed your problem yet, let us know. The card reader Bukit mentioned is a great alternative, but as far as your camera goes it must be on and set to Playback, and if your computer still isn't finding it you may have an issue with your USB connection. Let us know if you're still having issues!

I second that emotion. You can easily get the pics off your SD card with a cheap $10 memory card reader. Also, try Picasa. It's a much better photo management tool. And it's free!
