Functions DIAL on A540 is suddenly messed up? Can't go to video or portrait or landscape?

When I dial to "auto" it is on program (it is also on "program" when I dial to "program"). When I dial to "video" it is on "stitch assist" etc. Some functions are just in the wrong place on the dial and others are missing completely??? I tried the reset (by holding down the menu button) but I think this is something more serious.

Lori,

This sounds like a pretty big problem. I would contact Canon for warranty/repair support. Good luck.

Thanks for responding. I talked to Canon but of course they just want me to ship it to the nearest repair center. I just thought that since it happened so quickly with no dropping or banging it, that maybe there might be an easy fix.
Do you totally advise against taking to a local place to get it checked out? It is no longer under warranty. I can't live without a camera for the time it will take to ship it to a major city.
Anyone else hear of this problem happening to a camera?

Lori,

The repair center will work, but I would get a price quote before allowing them to do any repairs. A lot of times a repair is more costly than a new camera. I have had my Canon SD230 for almost 6 years and it has never acted up on me. Good luck.
