I'm trying to download pictures from canon A540 to Vista operating system on laptop. Doesn't work. What can I do?

Is there some kind of driver that I can download to make this work?

Are you using the Canon software? If you like it and want to be using it, it might help to wipe it and reinstall. If you don't like it, I'd try removing it altogether. I typically don't install anything when hooking up a camera to my computer; I just plug it in and let Vista download the drivers it needs. Did you do this and it isn't working?

An even better answer, frankly, is to get a card reader. They're about 15 dollars at Walmart or Target and they plug into your USB. You put the card into the reader and it downloads from there; no drivers are required. Also saves wear and tear on your camera.

I am using the Canon software and it used to work when I was using Windows XP but not with Vista. I actually thought you had to used the software, so I will try what you suggested. I really like your last idea a lot. Sounds quite easy. Thanks so much for your help.
