Camera keeps auto scrolling through pictures, wont let me open the menu or stop it

I can turn it on and off fine, I can take a picture with it in camera mode. But everytime I go to the review it goes through all the photos quickly and when I try to push any buttons it stops for a second but only temporarily. Also, the zoom doesn't work. I've had this camera for about a year and a half and it's worked fine until now.

Have you tried resetting the camera? This is a fairly easy procedure which involves either going into your setup menu and choosing "reset" (or intialize), holding down the menu key for 5 seconds, or, removing the batteries for a few minutes. It may be that the firmware loading got corrupted and the camera just needs to be "rebooted," which is something that turning it on/off won't accomplish. But after which, you should have the camera reset to factory default settings.

Another tip is to go to Canon's website and look for firmware updates. Download and install them.

I'd also give it a good cleaning around all the buttons. There could be But the fact that the lens won't zoom concerns me. Canon advises that in a situation like this, you're only real recourse is to send it in for repair. Though hopefully a full reset may solve the issue. But if it doesn't, since this camera is out of warranty, understand that the average cost of a camera repair is around $180. As such, it may cost more to repair than it is really worth. The rule of thumb is that if the estimate for repair is north of 50% what you paid for it, you're better off taking that money and buying a newer and upgraded model.

Thanks for your input, I think what I'll have to do is just buy another camera - I only paid 150 for the Powershot so repairing it for almost or over what I paid doesn't sound appealing. I've tried opening the menu to reset the settings but the menu won't even open and holding the button down for 5 seconds doesn't do a thing - it's like they aren't even there. So thanks for your answer, I appreciate it! Take care!
