I got the "Lens error, restart camera" message right out of the box. Restarting doesn't help. suggestions?

I removed and re-inserted the batteries and card several times to no avail.

It sounds like you were unlucky enough to get a malfunctioning camera direct from the factory. This is unfortunate but understandable when you consider how many models they make. I would exchange it for a new one there is nothing that can easily be fixed here. It was most likely damaged in some way in delievery, no fault of your own. Sorry there isn't a simple quick fix.

Same thing happen to me. I have had the camera for a year now. Just yesterday I got the "Lens error, restart camera" on the display. I am finding that alot of people are having this problem. I just returned it today at cosco.

Hi Guys n Gals
I have a cool pix 8800. Have the "lens error" message. Its 3 years old and worked last week but not today. Possitivly not been abused or miss used. \ne ideas? appreciated.

i have the lens error, restart camera message displaying on the camera but did not buy it new ad do not have a warranty for it... is it able to be fixed...?

I have tried everything mentioned above relating to the "lens error restart camera" error. I've even tried holding down the menu button for 5 seconds are suggested in order to reset it but had no luck there either. Have never had a problem with this camera and it just won't bonkers on me all of a sudden.
