The A520 (and I guess all Powershot cameras with RemoteShooting capability) can be used as a webcam. You only need a screen capture software, like Camtasia Recorder from the Camtasia Studio and Canon's own software, Camerawindow -> Remote shooting. You only need to start these programs, enable the Liveoutput option in the Camtasia Recorder, place the capture frame over the Remoteshooting window and start recording.

The Canon A570 IS (unlike my beloved old A75 predecessor) does not support remote capture capability. Run CameraWindow and the remote button is 'grayed out.' I have no idea why Canon decided to remove that feature and 'dumb down' this model line.

Well, with the obsession to make cameras smaller, more compact and give them greater features like face recognition, image stabilization, larger zooms, in the end something probably just had to go. Too bad too.
