what does incompatible jpeg mean?

i put a 2GB disk back in my camera, and i went to view the pix i had previously taken. i get a message: incompatible jpeg. what does this mean?

It means that the camera is having trouble reading that sector of the memory card. It's not uncommon. One minute you can read it and the next, it has trouble. Remove the card and then reseat it. If it still has trouble, I would plug the card into a USB card reader and then get all the pictures off that card. Then format the card over. But if you can't read the card with a reader, then I'd suggest using a card recovery utility like F-Recovery to get back your pictures and recover the card. they do get corrupted sometimes. One of the reasons why it's a good idea to have a few backups.

May be you changed picture by some program and picture now incompatible.

That can happen. If you alter a picture and then save it, its strips away the meta data and replaces it which could cause problems when the camera goes to read it. It may read it once or every so often intermittently.
