What does it mean when the memory card reads 'memory card error'?

I recently took Wedding pictures. When I tried to have photos developed (printed), the memory card reads, 'memory card error' and the pictures appear to be gone. Is there any way I can retrieve the pictures on this memory card?

you can use a utility like "F-Recovery" to get back your pictures and recover your card. Another option is a utility called Zero Assumption Recovery. Once you get the images back, I'd toss the card and get a new one.

Yikes. If you haven't already, also try looking at the photos on your own computer at home. Maybe the card just isn't working at the developing place. If you can get to them at home, quick, download them and save to your computer, then put on CD and develop from there. I'm also wondering if you can still view them inside the camera in Playback.
