It accepts SDHC cards, so you can get a 4GB or 8GB SDHC card that will still work. It should also accept all sizes of SD card. Hope this helps, if you have any other questions feel free to ask.

When purchasing SDHC cards the speed of the card may be important to you as well. Speed is specified by the Class of the card with Class I being the slowest and Class III the fastest. Class I is fine for general photography at normal speeds. Class II is required to take video at full speed without having skips or gaps due to slow transfer rate. Class III is needed if you use the continuous shoot mode and take more than 3 or 4 pictures in a row. Class III is also required for cameras shooting RAW which this particular model does NOT.

Lee, I just received my A590 from Amazon yesterday and love it! I'll assume you found the slot inside the battery compartment where it goes. Having said that, yes it could be a little confusing to those of us that this is our first time. I made it a little easier by using a flashlight and shining down inside the unit and actually getting to see the contacts that will engage the SDHC card.

Basically you want to orient the card for insertion with the contacts being the end of the card going in first and you want the contacts facing the back side of the camera which is the side with the display screen. Then just gently push on the card until you hear a click which is the locking mechanism being engaged and that should be it. Hoped this helped.

How do I insert the memory card into my camera? Because the bottom slot where it should go won't like open, so I can't really get it in there.

I know it will work with 16GB SDHC cards; I have a class 6 card and the camera is very happy. Huge memory cards like that are overkill for still pictures but handy to have if you shoot video; mine is good for nearly 4 hours of video at the high quality setting. You're still limited by the 4GB or 1 hour per clip limit, though; at high quality you get about 55 minutes of continuous recording.

you place the memory card into the open slot to the left and above the battery compatrments. You do not open up the little gray door that is inside the cover.

Faizer, I own an 8GB SDHC card (as well as the 16GB card mentioned in my previous reply) and that card works in the A590IS.

About your last question where you can download pictures from your camera to your computer, but you can't read the card from your computer. I think I recall having this problem. And it is because the format that the card reader in the computer is looking for is standard format, but the format on the card itself is HC, high capacity, it is a newer format that came out after your card reader was made. It might be possible to download a driver (software) from the manufacturer of your card reader that is in your computer, run it , and that might configure your card reader to read the newer HC format. If that can't be done, you could get a card reader that can read HC formatted cards that connects to your USB port and read cards from your computer that way. Or you can just access the card by connecting a cable to your camera that has the card in it, and access the files on the card through your camera connection to your PC. good luck.
