I am trying to decide between the A720 is and the A590. I am going to use this to take pics of my kids and to sell things on ebay.

I will be using this camera for taking pics of little moving kids and this will be my first digital camera. It needs to be easy to use, but I can learn things and am open to that. I have always owned olympus cameras and was told not to buy a digital from them that a canon would be the easiest to learn on. I dont mind spending a little more money to get a good camera I can hold on to for a while.

Definitely the A720, it has much better picture quality and more zoom (6x), so for both of the purposes you're using it for the A720 would be the better decision.

Is there any other Camera you would recommend, or do you think that is the best? In that price range or should I spend a little more and get a better camera?

Honestly I don't like the A series much in general, I think its definitely worth the money upgrading to the SD series, specifically the SD890, the new camera out by Canon (among others). It has good zoom, phenomenal picture quality, and all the bells and whistles you could want from a camera. Hope this helps.

Melissa,
The advantage to the Axxx series of cameras from Canon over the SDxxx series is the manual control ability of the A series.
If you are satisfied with the scene modes and get good results then it doesn't matter, but if you want to be able to set the shutter speed or the aperture size then the A series will accomplish the task. Part of what you pay for in the SD series is the smaller size.
