First thing I would do is reset the camera. This is a fairly easy procedure which involves either going into your setup menu and choosing "reset" (or intialize), holding down the menu key for 5 seconds, or, removing the batteries for a few minutes. It may be that the firmware loading got corrupted and the camera just needs to be "rebooted," which is something that turning it on/off won't accomplish. But after which, you should have the camera reset to factory default settings.

Another tip is to go to Canon's website and look for firmware updates. Download and install them.

Also, make sure you have fresh high capacity (mAh) batteries in it. Often undercharged or depleted batteries can easily affect camera performance.

This camera, and a couple of other Canon's have a problem with a connection between the motherboard and the LCD. The only way I've seen to fix the camera LCD is to replace it. But this is usually costly. The other option I see is trying to reconnect the LCD, but this will void your warranty, and you have a good chance of breaking the camera in the process, so my recommendation is probably just to live with it, if the firmware update doesn't work. A lot of people have the same camera, and the LCD doesn't work period. You could also try a camera repair shop if the problem concerns you very much.

IF you still have a warranty, I'd contact Canon about repairing it. If not, at least you'll know how much it'll run. Then you can talk to these guys - http://www.darntoothysam.com/servlet/StoreFront
