Battery Life on 590

I had a fuji with AA batteries and i changed the every 10 shots or less,how many shot will these get with rechargeable batteries,I am also looking at sd11oo, sd790 andsd780,thanks greg

Well it greatly depends on the batteries you use. Today's digital cameras take a lot of power to operate and as such, if you just rely on conventional alkalines or even so-called heavy duty batteries, you won't get much use out of them. That's because they don't have enough "mAh" or hi voltage to power the camera for the long haul. These cameras really need batteries with an mAh of at least 2500 to use for proper performance. And rechargable ones are even better as they're cheaper in the long run and better for the environment.

Using the proper batteries and you should get over 400 shots according to Canon.

I did get hold of Canon tech and he said 100 -200 pictures,thanks

That's probably more accurate than Canon's marketing boasts. They do that benchmark under very controlled conditions that don't take into account various usage, and over reliance on the LCD or flash, etc. So yeah, 200 is about right.

A combination of with flash , without flash, Always on OIS, LCD on returns me more than 200 every time.
But i gets about 50 with CHDK.

Well, you're talking about an unauthorized firmware hack, and even though it's part of the SD card, it doesn't surprise me that the performance drops dramatically with it.
