Decent camera terrible cost for AC adapter.
( - 5/11/05)I am not an avid camera person or anything but I do own a Canon A60 digital camera. I thought I'd share some information just in case it hasn't been touched upon in any other reviews.
The information I would like to share is that Canon uses a unique DC-in on their digital cameras that is an uncommon 4.3V with a Canon specific size plug-in so that in order to take advantage of an AC adapter you must buy their specific AC adapter that runs around $70.
Kodak digital cameras on the other hand tend to have more common DC-in voltage requirements (3V,5V and 7V) with what appears to be a common size plug-in. Also the Kodak brand AC adapter that they sell runs only $30 regardless of voltage.
I was very upset to find out that Canon was so sinister as to make a Canon specific voltage requirement and Canon unique size plug-in for the DC-in. The only reason for this is so that their customers have to spend another $70 just for their unique special AC adapter. There is no other reason that a DC-in would be 4.3V with a unique size plug-in.
I am hitting all the Camera review websites to inform people of this problem. It is really a terrible thing to do to customers in my opinion.
This information would be very helpful to those who are just looking to buy a decent digital camera to take pictures once in awhile and for the common consumer who would not think to check something like the DC-in voltage requirement when making a purchase, only to be alarmed later of the fact that you can only use the $70 Canon specific AC adapter to take advantage of the DC-in.
Thank you
