Hi Kevin,

Does it display an image in review mode? Do the menu overlay options show up when you're in shooting mode? Do images you take with the black LCD come out black in review mode? If so, this is probably a damaged/failed CCD sensor. You can go here to request a repair from Canon, but if your camera is no longer under warranty it will probably end up costing you more than it's worth.
