Hi Mark,

I've looked around and found a few users complaining of a similar problem but no explanation of the cause or a solution. At least one user review on our page for the camera mentions a similar experience.

Canon unfortunately doesn't post a list of their error codes and what they mean, so the public is given no frame of reference for what's wrong with their cameras. At least one of their other error codes, E18, has caused enough trouble that whole websites have been created to discuss it.

That said, if you bought the camera less than a year ago, you can probably get it repaired or replaced for free by Canon. The complaints I've read about the A610 and E16 invariably mention that they talked to Canon tech support, who eventually determined that the camera was "defective" and had the user send it in for a repair.

You can contact Canon's repair department here. If you're not under warranty you might still want to consider contacting them.

Hope this helps.

If it is an e18 error - try this website www.e18error.com. It is pretty helpful.
