How do I replace the internal battery which holds the date/time settings ?

The internal battery in my A620 does not seem to hold charge. Let us assume I put in a set of new AA batteries in and turn the camera on, it will ask me to set the date/time. If I let the camera sit for just one day, the AA batteries drain out and I repeat the same process over and over again.

I even opened up the camera, but am unable to spot anything like a lithium battery. Where is the damn thing ???

I have looked high and low and cannot seem to find an answer to this question.

I think you're under a mistaken impression here. There is a lithium battery, but you certainly seem to have either a woefully bad batch of batteries or a short of some kind.

I'm inclined to go with the easy answer first - bad batteries. It happens more often than not. For cameras, I recommend Varta. Comes in small packages and due to that turnover, stay fresher and don't die on the rack.

Well, even the user manual says that there is a rechargeable internal lithium battery (to hold date/time information) for the a620.

I have tried several different sets of recharagable batteries (the AA kind). The problem did not go away.

I believe the idea is that the AA batteries charge the internal Lithium battery.

That's true. But on the same page of the manual, it also says that the date/time information gets lost when the batteries die. So I don't think it's the built in lithium battery that's the issue here.

When you say "date/time info gets lost when the batteries die". Are you talking about the AA battery ? If so, that would imply setting the date/time every time you change the AA batteries. That does not seem right.

In you first answer, when you imply I use Varta batteries. Is this for the AA or the internal battery ? If it's for the internal one, how do I go about finding the one for my A620 ?

I appreciate your help !

AAs. They are usually found at camera stores. They are quite strong and long lasting. As for the lithium. If that's gone bad, you may be looking at a camera repair. Contact Canon to see if it's still under warranty.

OK, I am very sure I don't have bad AA batteries. I have already contacted Canon and they wanted $100 to repair it. I did not think it was worth it.

So I am back to my initial question. How do I go about locating the internal rechargeable lithium battery and where can I find a replacement for it ?

I saw a website which shows how to open up an A95 and in those instructions I can identify the lithium battery quite easily (it's a button cell), but I don't seem to have found anything like that in the A620 (when I opened it up)

If anyone has any pointers I would appreciate it.

You may be able to find a repair manual on the net. I've seen them online for other models. Just understand that any warranty left would be voided. (although if you had warranty time left, you could use it with Canon, so nevermind)

But if you think $100 isn't worth it, perhaps applying that $100 to a new model is the answer.

I know this is a little late, but I pulled apart my Canon A620 just recently. The cell you are talking about is actually behind the LCD screen. A strange place to put it, but that is where it is :)

Thanks !

Unfortunately, it's too late for me. I decided to simply open up the camera without caring to put it back together and I could not find the cell anywhere. Of course, I did not open the LCD screen :-)

But thank you. I hope this is of some use to others.

And it's probably a $2 watch battery! Kumar, don't give up. If that's all that's wrong with it, at least you can fix it and have a back up camera, if you're planning on just buying a new camera anyway.

My Canon A620 will not power on. New batteries did not help; even connecting a power cord did not help. I've taken apart the LCD panel and see the cell battery, but have been unable to find any place online to buy a replacement. Local jewlry/watch store does not carry it nor does Radio Shack (took the battery to them to see if they could even find a comparable battery). Any ideas on where to get a replacement cell? The number on the battery starts out as MS61. Because there's another number stamped on the cell, I can't tell if the next character is an "A", O (letter) or 0 (zero). The last character is S. Any hints/suggestions on where to get a replacement would be appreciated. OORRR...Suggestions on a comparable camera that I can buy.

I have a similar problem with my 2 Finepix 3800 cameras. I know the internal soldered on batteries are bad. I called Fujifilm and they were no help at all. They said they have no batteries for this camera and offered to sell me a another model. Im trying to find replacement batteries that will match the Fujifilm part # FZ04705-100, 3v Lithium Rechargeable which they reference as a BT900 battery! If I knew if there was a battery that will work with a CR#, that would be great. All I need to do is un-solder and re-solder a new one.

I can't believe this battery is unavailable anywhere. I have searched the internet for weeks now with no luck. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
