Repair Manual needed for Powershot A620

The retractible lens is broken and what parts are left are leaving a dark hue on the bottom right of my pictures. Advice? I order the part that Canon said I needed, but they said they can offer no advice on how to put the part on!

Well quite frankly, there is no repair manual for it, the only thing they have as far as repair guidelines, their tech guys have. The lens is a very delicate mechanism and if you try and replace it yourself, you are more than likely to damage it. My advice is to take it to a camera repair shop, and since you have the part they will charge less. What it basically entails is taking the camera apart, then taking out the entire lens mechanism and replacing the parts, which is much much easier said than done. Hope this helps.

Actually, repair manuals can be found online for a price. It's not easy, but they can be found. But the cost you pay for buying a copy ... you may just want to have it fixed by a pro. But understand that the average cost of a camera repair is around $180. As such, it may cost more to repair than it is really worth. The rule of thumb is that if the estimate for repair is north of 50% what you paid for it, you're better off taking that money and buying a newer and upgraded model.

Either that or just buy another A620 on eBay.
