I suspect one of two things. Its either a CCD problem, which is very common in this camera, and Canon replaces the camera for free, even out of warranty. So start by calling Canon, and verifying that it is a CCD problem, then take the necessary steps to get it repaired. If its not that, its probably a lens problem, but we can get to those solutions if the first doesn''t work.

Thanks again. I called Canon and I'll send it in for diagnosis. Estimates are free, but repairs start at $79. They do have a customer loyalty program, offing discounted prices on other models. I'll see what the repair center says before I continue with a different model. Thanks again for your answer. I'm glad the problem isn't just operator error!

It sounds like the famous CCD problem that many Canon cameras have encountered. This repair is free and covered, so hopefully it is the CCD. But either way, good luck.

I just talked to Canon and they said the A620 was NOT on their service advisory for this problem. She also said if you send it in for repairs it will cost no more and no less than $79 plus a $10 service fee plus tax. My camera stopped working after using it in the bathroom with the shower running (hot/humid conditions) which is what was causing the other cameras to stop working due to a wiring connection to the CCD. She also suggested reseting the camera to all factory defaults by: turn camera on > select menu > tools > reset all.
