Swivel screen AND good macro shots? Is the A650 the best?

Hi- I'm looking to replace a Canon A80 (yes, ancient history!). I use it for taking pictures of textiles in less-than-ideal settings. I must have a swivel screen and good macro capabilities, and I can't spend an arm and a leg. I would really like RAW file capability, a rechargeable battery to lighten the camera, and CF storage, but these are secondary considerations. It seems the A650 is the only camera with the swivel screen and decent macros. Anything I'm missing out there?

I like mine but it sometimes has a hard time getting focused photos. I am really hoping for a full size sensor coming soon in an affordable canon. I need the swivel screen and like this model but frankly this is my 4th canon and my first 2 mg took the best focused photos of all of them go figure!

It also needs to recharge the batteries every night if on a vacation as the battery life is like my previous 3 not very long lasting.......

The macro function works better than my earlier models and a tripod is needed for good shots!

Take a look at the Sony H50, its around the same price, and takes amazing macro shots. Plus it has a swivel screen, high megapixels, and tons of other features. Tell us if you have any questions about any of the cameras, and maybe we can help direct you to a good one that has the features you're looking for.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll look into the Sony H50, but it's encouraging to hear that the Canon A650 takes good macros!

Hi, I just lost my camera today (It was a Canon A620 which took EXCELENT pictures) and I need to replace it... I see that the best option for me now is A 650 IS since I like the swivel screen & AA bateries, but I am worried about the model being from a couple of years ago. I like Canon but maybe there is another option that may have my needs by keeping the nicest pictures possible. Is the 650IS as good as 620 whne talking to quality of the images?

Please advice!

Luis
