which is the best optiom in cameras with swivel screen and aa batteries to replace A620

I just lost my camera today (It was a Canon A620 which took EXCELENT pictures) and I need to replace it... I see that the best option for me now is A 650 IS since I like the swivel screen & AA bateries, but I am worried about the model being from a couple of years ago. I like Canon but maybe there is another option that may have my needs by keeping the nicest pictures possible. Is the 650IS as good as A620 when talking about quality of the images? I have seen brand new models at canon but none have the swivel LCD screen. Will it be wise to buy A650IS?

Please advice!

Luis

The A650 IS would be a great replacement camera for the A620 IF you can find one (It has been discontinued by Canon so if you want one you'd better hurry and snag one still on the shelf somewhere). The A650IS got off to a bad start with light leak problems but, as I understand it, a full recall was immediately instituted and all cameras were corrected at no cost.

A wonderful current Canon would be the SX10IS with Tilt and Swivel LCD and 20X optical zoom (Really!) AA X 4 batteries. Check it out. It is larger and heavier than the A650is due to the 20X zoom.

One small potential disadvantage I see to the A650IS is that since it is discontinued Canon will stop supporting it sooner than they will the SX10IS which is still in production. A minor difference.

Thanks Larry... I went into the reviews and the camera you are mentioning (SX10IS) sounds good but I think that it is a little oversized as I look it to be my one and only camera. My brother in law has a S2IS (Old version from this one) and I know his pictures are good, but the camera is too big for me (also I dont like the flash issue - you need to open it). Can you give me a second option? Thanks so much for the advice about the 650 being out of production... Too bad! It is crazy that for an old and discountinued model the prices I have found are over USD $ 500.00, I really need to find another option for the replacement soon.

Often we see the prices jump up above original retail price when a GOOD camera gets discontinued. Even the G9 prices have jumped upward with the G10 release.

Unfortunately, I am unable to find any currently available small digital cameras with twist and flip LCD!!!!

Thanks again Larry,

I have been researching also and I think I will wait for Canon new releases, in the meantime I dont want to lose any more pictures from my new born baby so I think I will go for a Canon A720 or maybe a Canon A590 which has very good reviews and an excellent price...

Lets hope Canon will release a A660 or something like that in thenear future!!!

Best regards,

Luis
