Camara Recommendation?

My office is looking into purchasing a digital camera to take pictures at our company's Awards Banquet. We will also be taking photos for various company functions in- and out-side. Does anyone recommend a camera that is user friendly and able to take photos in a low light room such as at an awards banquet?

Consider the Canon A700 or SD700. Both are good in lower light situations.
