My camera was suddenly unable to playback video that I shot and also not able to give the detail of the photoshot in playback mode, Any reason why?

Usually, the camera should be able to playback the video taken but it had refused to do so for the last few video that I took? Also the detail of the photo that I took was also not on the playback mode of camera. E.g. shuttle speed, exposure.....Any reason why?

Maybe the mem card is bad. U could try a new mem card. Also (if that isn't it) it seems that there was a way in the manual to 'reset' the camera---sort of like re-booting a PC.

I had try to reset the camera and also try on a different memory card but it still doesn't work. The previous files recorded by me previously work well on the camera and I could play the previous video but not the new ones that I had taken

Any help?

Thanks

By the way, the photo that I took now also did not have the details like focus range, ISO and others information recorded which makes me thought that I may had press the wrong function deleting this info. I try to call the Canon canada for info but thay can't offer much except reset the camera!

Try putting it in a friend's camera. If it works, then you know your camera has a problem, not the card. Aside from that, my recommendation is to use a USB card reader and get the video and photos off the camera. Then reformat the card. If the problem persists, then I'd suggest a different brand of card.

Also try resetting the camera and updating the firmware.

I got my A710 in Oct. of 2006. I was getting ready to order the "brand new" A700 --- and just then the A710 came out. I believe the A700 had a short market life of just 2 months. Bottom line: I got one of the first A710 cameras. The serial number is 3028201555. I wouldn't be surprised if the last five digits indicate that this is camera #1555.

Wondered what your SN is? Why? Well, I have had no problem with the A710, and never ever did a firmware update. So I doubt that the firmware is the problem.

My Sn no is 3248306264. The problem is that I noted the image I took recognised the camera as Cafgn Pwer shot @710 IS and not Canon Power shot 710 IS. Any reason why?

Thanks for the comment...

Yikes. That's more than typos.

Are U saying that the PC program displays that??? Sounds like your PC program is corrupted.

In fact, is it possible that the problems U described in your first question are on the PC monitor? I had assumed that U meant the camera wouldn't play back; IE on the camera's LCD screen.

If perchance ALL of these issues are PC-related, then it most definitely sounds like your PC "picture importing program"* is corrupted.

* such as the Canon software that came with the camera, or the Windows Camera/Scanner program, or Photoshop....etc.

By the way, all the problems occur on my camera and the other image from my old Olympus C2 worked fine on my PC.

There were some suggestion that this could be the film reviewer function of the camera being turn on accidentally and causing it to edit the setting and info on its own. Is this true and how do we turn this off?

I wish I could sent you all a image to demonstrate what I had say.

Thanks everyone!

Yeah, upon further reflection, I have to agree with Rich on this. Canon, and other manufacturers, make great cameras, but they should really leave the software to software companies. My recommendation is to import them using Picasa 2 by Google. Free!
