Can't take a picture with flash

When I press the shutter the flash indicator blinks and I can't take the picture, no matter how long I hold down the button. The batteries are charged and the battery indicator is not blinking. Please HELP I love this camera.

Clean your battery contacts with a pencil eraser and make sure your batteries are strong enough. They may be charged, but if they are old lithium ion batteries, even fully charged they may not have enough capacity to handle the charge of the flash and the camera as well. LiOn batteries lose capacity at about 10% a year or so. Also, download and install any available firmware update. If the issue still persists, you'll need to send it in for repair.
