My LCD screen only displays magenta lines or is completely black and it will not take pictures at all. What could be causing this problem?

What about the viewfinder? it may just be your lcd, which could have a faulty connection to the sensor (or have just died) or it may be your sensor not recieving light and/or being dead. Unfortunately, the service costs are going to be so high as to justify updating and getting a newer camera. The Canon A720 IS is under $200 and is very similar to this camera in shape but, according to the reviews, much better than this one. If it was purchased within the last year, i would suggest contacting Canon about your warranty, if not, then i would highly recommend updating.

I am still able to see through the viewfinder in any light but the camera will not take any pics at all. It will click and the flash will light but nothing is recorded. If I put a disk in that already has pictures on it, I am able to view the pictures on the LCD screen. I think you may be right about the sensor. Thank you for all your help!

t00nz, thank you so much for that information. I followed the links and found that my camera does have a defective CCD imager. The Canon Repair Center has fixed the problem for free and I received it by mail today. They were great! I feel much better about the Canon products and I am very happy with the results! Again, thanks!
