The red eye feature never gives you any guarantee that you get satisfying results. It may reduce the red eye problem but it all depends on many factors including the subject's eye color etc. So the only solution is to use picture editing software. Adobe Photoshop Elements, for example, eliminates the problem completely and even does it automatically in most cases.

I have never used a camera that never caused red-eye.
Sometimes it has to do with the lighting and the flash you use.

However, you can remove red-eye using many different photo-editing programs.

One that I use is called Irfanview--it is free and is good for basic photo editing stuff.

I hope that helps. =)

Red eye generally occur when subject looks directly to the lens of the camera. If you noticed, your camera have flashing light to reduce red eye effect. It makes your subject look away from the lens. The smaller the camera the less the distance between the lens and that flashing light, so it may have no effect at all. Some photographers waive their fingers while taking shot to attract people's attention to prevent them to look at the lens directly. You can also instruct your subjects to do so. It may help. :)
