You might have accidentally pressed the "Display" button. Try pressing it again to turn the display back on.

i know about the display button. thing is, before it went totally dark, the lcd is showing some rainbow-ish color waving at the lcd. it blurs the lcd and after that, darkness. but it shows the functions and menus. you can choose from the functions.

thanks guys for your help.. :) i really appreciate it.

Hmm well that is mysterious. If you could see the menus and previously taken pictures, but any new pictures were black, I would say it was a CCD sensor issue. But if you can see the new pictures, and they look normal, I'm not sure what would explain this behavior.

My Canon A80 did the same thing. It also starts up with the display off. The problem has now progressed to the point where any time I try to take a picture using the LCD monitor as soon as I press the shutter button it gives me a "Change the battery pack" error and then shuts off. And yes I have checked the batteries and tried 3 new sets all with the same error. It will take pictures as long as I don't use the LCD monitor.

I'll be sending mine in for repairs. Its a nice camera when it works........
