Canon A95 Problem

For a couple of days I am experiencing a peculiar problem in my Canon A95 digital camera. The lcd shows a brown to purple coloured band in shooting mode. The image on the lcd also flickers. Pressing the shutter midway clears the band but the pictures when taken shows a dark coloured band on the upper portion of the image. However in vieweing mode there is no problem. I have also copied a few images (not taken by the cam) on to the memory card and they appear to be just fine. So I guess there is no problem with the lcd. What could have gone wrong? Is it the CCD? The camera is made in China and is at the last month of warranty. Will Canon charge me for this? I live in Kolkata, India. Where should I go?
Thanks.

It could be a CCD problem. I'm a little perplexed that you said your photos are coming out OK, which makes me wonder if your LCD itself isn't dying, but since you said you can view already-taken photos fine, it couldn't really be that either.

Your camera does fall under the 'bad CCDs' that were recalled awhile back, in which case you could possibly get it replaced for free if that is what the problem is. Here's the article on the CCD recall:

My advice is to read over that and then give Canon a call- here's the page for service in India:

Thanks for the reply.
My pictures are not coming fine. The pictures show a band of purple hue at the top. I guess it is the CCD. The LCD seems to be o.k. I contacted the Kolkata support. They said that if they find any CCD problem they would replace it for free. However they clarified if other replacements were made it would be charged along with service charges and taxes. I plan to show them the camera and if I find the total charges to be huge then I would be buying a new camera. Certainly not a canon this time...

Good luck, Ratna. It sure sounds like a CCD to me, so hopefully you will get the free replacement. I did want to mention, though-- don't let this sour you on Canons. If you look at the article I linked above, you'll notice that this recall problem affected cameras across the board, and in fact I believe the problem originated in Sonys. It was an electronics issue, not a brand issue, and Canons really are fantastic cameras. I wouldn't trade my old Canon A85 for anything. =)

Even though I don't know what a CCD is, there is a line across the top of my LCD and it has a purple like hue. This just started about a week ago. I'm not sure if my camera is still under warranty. I've had it over a year. What should I do?
