the camera keeps switching on my itself

i purchased a G5 some time ago but lately it keeps having the problem of switching on by itself without the on button being pressed. on the screen there's this 'pb' digital wording and this symbol that looks like a torch. does anyone have any idea what's wrong or how i can fix this problem? its constantly switching on by itself and wasting the battery life.

Wenlin,

This camera may have some internal wiring issues. Some cameras have these issues when they get older. I would recommend finding a local camera service provider or getting in touch with Canon repair services. Good luck.

Resetting the camera to original default settings (same as a computer rebooting) might help. I think you will find that option under menu, tools. Otherwise, remove the battery for a few minutes and it may reset that way. I have to agree with Andrew that this sounds like a service provider is going to be needed. Just one more possibility though - your camera is old enough that if you are still using the original battery it could easily be having increased internal resistance just due to age. There isn't anything to be done about that except buy a new battery, and I would recommend a new Canon original rather than a third party battery. Have your local camera shop check it all out and Good Luck to you.
