Not bad, not great.
( - 8/1/05)I had a Sony V1 stolen and decided to replace it with the Canon G6. I shoot the majority of my photos with a Nikon D100 and Nikon lenses but wanted something smaller and easier to take with me. After all is said and done, I miss my Sony. The G6 is slow and plastic feeling. It seems that it shoots most photos overexposed and it has cumbersome to deal with controls that should be simple and available at a seconds notice. Intuitivness was not a subject talked about when planing this camera. I suppose one can become used to it, but why make things like flash compensation a button pushing extravaganza? It does shoot good photos and color is very accurate. The flip-out screen is wonderful to use. I love the size of it. I know alot of people say this camera is too large for a compact but It feels easy to grip and hold steady. The software that comes with it is pretty much useless unless it is the only photo software you have. Editing is limited to red-eye removal and cropping and that is about it. After all the complaining, I think I will keep it and dive further into it. It is a nice camera for those that want to "get into" photography without spending big bucks. I found this one at an electronics store for $300 new in box. You can find great deals now that the new Canons are out.
