View finder and LCD screen are blank only shows memory

If I press the shutter the flash pops up and fires after a few seconds but no image is recorded in the memory

Hi Bob,
Is your memory functioning properly? Is the card inserted correctly, is it working, etc? I'd try new memory before considering it a problem with the camera.

Or perhaps running a utility like F-Recovery to save any pictures you may have on it and the reformat the card.

I have had an answer from Canon who say that on some of the S! IS models thier was a fault with the internal CCD wiring coming off and they would repair FOC.

That could easily be. Checking Canon's website for a service advisory is always a good idea. Under support.

Know this post is old, but this may be of help to others who have this problem. Yep this sounds like a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info.
