i have this crazy idea.. do you think it will work?

guyz, i have this really crazy idea, well you see i have a s3is and i wanted to put an external flash for my cam, unlike the s5is the s3is doesn't have hot shoe for the flash mount, so im thinking of maybe buying a hot shoe and just screw it on my cam, and buy a slave flash? i know that there is a flash available for the my cam but i dont like the idea that its on the side because the light isn't equally distributed,, do you think this will work? i wanted to buy s5 but only for the hot shoe.. so what do you think? crazy? or brilliant

If there's an external slave flash for the S3IS (which there is), you can do whatever you'd like with it instead of carrying it around manually or attaching it to the side. If you want it on top of your camera and want to start messing around with the housing, that's a risk you're going to have to make the decision on. It would be difficult to do, not just to avoid cracking the camera housing, but also to make sure you don't cover up or destroy the pop-up flash the S3IS already provides.

I would never attempt this. And the side-mounted slave flash shouldn't have a horribly biased flash distribution anyway. Think hard before attempting this...

One thing you may want to consider is an LCD Camera light that attaches through the tripod mount. Camera Bright Makes some very interesting ones that are quite powerful.
