I guess you get the prize for THE MOST UNUSUAL CAMERA FAILURE OF THE MONTH. That probably doesn't make you feel any better. I have no ideas why this happened. I suppose the camera is out of warranty, since the camera description at the top of the page says "NOTE: this product was first sold 47 months ago. There may be newer versions available."
You could take it to a repair shop, but...to look at it might be $35-50 minimum. And then pile on repair$$.
