Replacing the door on the Canon PowerShot S50?

Did Erik (or anyone) ever send instructions on how to replace the door on the Canon PowerShot S50? I have the same problem and Canon wants $150 to repair it and states that the camera has to be taken completely apart.....YEAH RIGHT! Looks fairly simple if you remove the brace for the handle??? Just want some input before I tackle this job.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Is it really that big a deal? With the age of the camera, it would seem to me that you're ready for a newer and upgraded model with higher MP. Then you could use this one as a backup camera. Replace the door with a piece of ducttape painted black and don't bother with it.

YES, it is that big of a deal! The camera may be an old one but it is in MINT condition other than the door. Apparently this is a defect in the design and Canon hasn't acknowledged it or other consumers aren't complaining LOUD enough. Canon did offer an upgrade/exchange for $200 on a REFURBISHED '06 SD900 10 mp with a 3x zoom. My S50 is a 5 mp with a 12X zoom and works perfectly. Thanks for the advice though.

Well, since the S50 is pushing 4 years old, getting a refurb'd SD900 with a warranty for $200 sounds like a timely bargain.

If you like your S50 and it works great otherwise, I would suggest taking it in to a local camera repair shop and getting some advice on your options. Also, a guy named darntoothysam sells parts on eBay. The problem with door replacements is that I haven't been able to find any instructions to do it despite being able to get replacement parts. Good luck and I hope you can keep your camera going. I kept my Minolta F100 going after the battery door latch broke by using an angle bracket from Home Depot! Unfortunately, it required placing a bolt in the tripod mount so I couldn't put it on the tripod any more. I finally bought a Canon G9 and like it very much.
