recharge the battery? I'm assuming you did. Try taking a pencil eraser and rubbing the battery contacts with it. You may have enough skin oil and dust on them to obscure the connection. It may also be that if you've had a lot of humidity that moisture in the camera can cause it to not turn on. Try placing it in a ziplock with a cup of uncooked rice for a few days. The rice will act as a dessicant and draw any excess moisture out.

Absent that, if it still has a warranty, you'd be well served to take advantage of it.b

Can you give us any history? How long had it sat on the shelf before it wouldn't turn on? Was the battery left in? Have you tried charging the battery a second time? How about taking battery out for several minutes then replacing it?
I have to admit I am astonished at how many times we see the story: A camera sits on a shelf for several months, was working fine when set on the shelf, and won't work at all after sitting that length of time despite charging the battery! Could this just be a worn out battery that won't hold a charge?

I agree, larry. I think that after several months of no use, a lithium ion battery can just die. Over time, LiOns lose capacity anyway, and if you just let them sit for awhile like that, it isn't surprising. One easy way to find out is to get a second battery and put it in. If she powers up, then you know.
