The 1200 also has the new Digic 4, and a couple new features. The processor (upgraded from Digic 3) is going to account for the main differences, including overall better photo quality. Definitely worth the extra $50.

Would it be beneficial to upgrade from my SD1000 to the SD1200 IS when it comes out? Will I see a major difference in speed and quality?

-SD 1200 IS has DIGIC 4 Image Processor with Canon Face Detection Technology is much faster than DIGIC 3(SD1100 IS)
-SD 1200 IS is 10 megapixels, SD 1100 IS 8 megapixels!

If you have the money to upgrade to the new one is faster and better, if not, SD 1100 IS is fine too:)
