First thing I would do is go to the Canon site for either camera. In the upper right hand corner you'll see a button for "choose the right product." Click on it. Then, click on "product comparison." A pop-up window will let you compare up to three cameras for features. This will give you a chance to compare them side by side to see the differences, and more importantly, the similarities.
Next, check out this resource. It takes pictures with each and you can compare them side by side.
The bottom line though, is that with the exception of subtle differences, they are very similar cameras with the exception of their size. The A Series also uses AA batteries, while the SD uses a proprietary lithium ion battery.
