Best Buy said I'd probably have to pay $200 for a new LCD screen

After using my PowerShot 100 for about five years, and pretty hard, I finally gave it to my daughter and bought the 400. Should have read the reviews about the LCD screen first, I guess. After having it for a week, got my first opportunity to use it yesterday—took the same excellent pictures I expected from my new Canon. Took it out of the Canon leather case today and turned it on to see nothing but the rainbow of a broken LCD screen. I'm really sad; had hoped it would rival my 100 for durability. Canon (are you listening?), is there a durable clear cover you could offer for the LCD screen? Or was there just one bad batch?
