electronic view finder (LCD) suddenly quit functioning (lines and splash across screen)

LCD worked fine and then turned camera on and the display became a lit spash of colors and lines. Camera was not dropped, battery is charged and memory card is empty. No indication of malfunction before this happended.

I had a friend whos camera did the same thing, so he took it into a camera shop and they told him they thought the camera had been dropped. He also could not recall any sort or fall it had had.

He was able to get it fixed and he got it fixed for free because he knew a guy a the camera shop. I'm not sure how much it would have been otherwise.
