There could be a number of reasons but one thing you can do, putting aside those that you can't, is to clean the battery terminals with the tip of a penknife until the contacts are shining again at the same time check whether the battery is loosely lodged inside
the battery compartment which sometimes occur after long use.
It also helps to check if there are any signs of corrosion due to leakage of battery fluid. If so, do what you can to clean the corroded parts and remove any greenish deposits at the base of the battery terminals.
Anything more than that probably needs to be attended to at a camera service center.
